Fathers Groups Go Front and Center at Los Angeles Courthouse

June 13, 2008  by Ray Blumhorst

Fathers 4 Justice, Los Angeles (F4JLA) and the National Coalition For Men, Los Angeles (NCFMLA) stood front and center this morning at the entrance to a downtown Los Angeles Courthouse.  The corner of 1st St. and Hill St. is always a bustling intersection and this morning it was even a little busier than usual.  All across America, today is Fatherless Day, and folks are taking to the streets to call attention to the way family law and family law courts mistreat Fathers.

The Hill St. Courthouse is the site where many a famous Hollywood celebrity has experienced the pangs of divorce and family law tyranny.

Picketers with their large signs were on the sidewalks by 7:15 a.m., and by 8:00 a.m., there was no ignoring their presence in front of the courthouse.  Folks from all across Southern California showed up for this event.  Protest organizers were surprised and pleased when Harry Crouch of the California Men's Center San Diego pulled into the parking lot to join them.  Crouch drove over a hundred miles to join the protest.  Sons, daughters, 2nd wives and others also drove long distances and made other sacrifices to join this protest and express their strong dissatisfaction with family law and family law courts.

Passing cars honked horns in support of the signs they saw.  About ten of the protesters wore carpenter’s aprons that they used to hold the flyers and buttons they were handing out.  One protestor handed out over 40 buttons in under 5 minutes.  “Father’s Day button,” he said as the people walked by.  He continued, “Sunday is Father’s Day, but today is Fatherless Day.  Dads are driven from their kid’s lives by these courts, and then blamed for being absent.”  The button this protestor was handing out said simply, “Honor the Father.”  Over the course of the 3-hour protest, the protestors gave away hundreds of fliers and hundreds of buttons.

At the end of the 3-hour protest, the protestors marched to the patio area between the Superior Court building and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisor’s building.  It was only about a month and a half ago that one Supervisor held a news conference on the other side of the country building, announcing a L. A. County crackdown on “Deadbeat Dads.”  Fred Sotile, President of F4JLA read a short speech in the lavish patio area, denouncing the unfair treatment Dads receive at the hands of their government.  Protestors loudly proclaimed their support of his statements.

Even though the crowd was not as big as the leaders of the protest would have liked, it was significantly bigger than their Father's Day rally last year in a L. A. County park.  With continued hard work and perseverance Father's rights advocates are hopeful that they will double, or triple, the size of their protest next year - if one is necessary.  Sadly, there is much fear that government still does not get the message that Father's rights advocates are sending, that the war on Dads will no longer be tolerated.  More and more Dads, and their relatives, and friends are speaking up, demanding that this tyranny end.

Torrance, California is Site of Second Fathers' Rights Rally

Posted by Ray Blumhorst in Vox Populi on February 11th, 2008

Fathers 4 Justice, Los Angeles and the National Coalition of Free Men, Los Angeles teamed up for a second time in Torrance, California to call attention to the plight of Fathers in family courts.

We came better prepared to this Torrance event than our first event. We brought bigger and stronger dollies and we were able to get all our tents, tables and gear to the park location in a matter of a couple of trips to our vehicles.

While a clear blue sky and lush green grass presented a pleasant setting for beaten down Dads and loved ones to gather, the pleasantry of the setting could not take away from the serious reason for Sunday's rally. Fathers across Los Angeles County, California, and America are being grossly abused by family law courts that do little to dispense just resolutions to family law litigant Fathers who come before them.

We’ve gotten used to people seeing our rallies, then coming back just to talk with us and tell us their personal experiences with Los Angeles, California’s misandrist, family law courts.

The street traffic flow at this location appears heavier than the San Fernando Valley location as evidenced by the number of folks who honk their horns in agreement, as they read the signs set up at our rally.

New to this rally were Fathers’ Issues, campaign buttons. If you’ve seen the protest signs we’ve made, you have an idea of the topics we’re putting on our campaign buttons. We gave away several dozen buttons over the course of the day and were excited to know that people will be wearing these buttons, calling attention to Fathers’ issues, in a variety of settings.

Also new to this event was one member’s new F4J trailer, beautifully painted to let Southern California know, “This is Fathers 4 Justice country.” Judging by the new contacts and warm camaraderie developing in Torrance, California, Fathers 4 Justice country, and National Coalition of Free Men country, is enlarging with each new rally.

MARCH 9TH FATHERS-4-JUSTICE/LOS ANGELES MOVES THE CLOCK FORWARD ONE HOUR. We also moved the family law reform movement ahead as well. Daylight savings time brought many new people to our rally/picnic this sunday in torrance. We were especially impressed with our new members forthright and sincere desire to make a better world for their own children, and society in general. We are constantly amazed by the kind of people who are put through hell by the unfair practices of the family law industry. Each month i anticipate finding someone who is complaining about a problem that they themselves have created. It virtually never happens. Again today, we met more great people. My thanks go out to the people who helped set up today's event and my arms go out to the new friends who have joined us today. These men, women, grandparents and children, prove to me on a daily basis how important family law reform is.

Fathers' Rights Groups Celebrate One-Year Anniversary of Rallies in the Park
by:  Ray Blumhorst  05/19/2008

May 2008 marked the one-year anniversary of Fathers4Justice (F4J) and the National Coalition of Free Men, Los Angeles (NCFMLA) holding rallies in the Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Park.  During that one-year period, only one rally (January) was cancelled, due to heavy rain.  Last May 2007, some people now living in Los Angeles weren't even born.  A little, eight-month-old girl, who attended our May ’08 celebration is shown in one photo, being held in her Daddy’s arms.

Near record heat marked the May '08 celebration, but the shade of the big trees offered a welcome respite from the heat and an ideal place to fire up the "ole barbee."

As has been the case throughout this past year, lots of folks stopped by to talk, or have a soft drink and a bite to eat.  Most notable of those in attendance:

#  (As mentioned previously) a little eight month old girl and her Daddy.

#  A Los Angeles County District Attorney, running for a Judge's Office in the June election, stopped by unannounced to solicit our votes.   "I'm with you guys," he said.  "I almost got divorced a few years back and it was a real eye opener," he said.  Given the candidates openness, we took the opportunity to explain some of the issues that Dads and men are encountering in Los Angeles County.

#  A noted Beverly Hills family law attorney also attended and shared some of his experiences and insights.  He'd heard our past NCFMLA President on the Tom Leykis show this past week and wanted to help.  He expressed an interest in educating men, especially young men, to the realities of family law situations "before" they find themselves disadvantaged and shortchanged in the system.

One woman came in off the street to assert to us how she was out hundreds of thousands of dollars, because of the family law system.  Our F4JLA President discussed with her how family law is shortchanging many parents who enter that system.  The woman stood by the table that had the parental alienation literature.  We hope she had a chance to see that material, which supports opposition to all forms of parental alienation of children.  At the least, she left with a knowledge that Fathers, and men, have valid, cogent, perspectives about family law issues.  She appeared to be more than a little surprised to see our willingness to proclaim our perspectives publicly.

A lot of folks liked the free buttons we were passing out, and took several for themselves, their relatives, and friends.  “My brother is having a terrible time and needs a group like this,” one man told us.  His story was all too familiar for anyone having heard the experiences of Fathers and men in family courts.  “Keep up the good work,” the man said over his shoulder as he walked away.

F4JLA and NCFMLA are dedicated to continuing their activism, and the building of the Fathers' and men's movement in Los Angeles County.

Though the hot days of summer are just beginning, dedicated members of F4JLA and NCFMLA are looking forward to outdoor fun, good food, fellowship, and activism in the months ahead.  This past year has been an educational experience for our members as well as the public.  With continued effort, and growth, we look forward to an even better year to come.
